March 23

I made a 2nd update of the tutorial " Web Access to PC via mobile GPRS / WAP "and I changed and detailed installation of SSL VPN for full internet access (Skype, Bittorrent, web, messaging IMAP, webmail, ...). Indeed the previous solution of SSL VPN is now paid, I advocate the solution "Your Freedom" with the software OpenVPN GUI every 2 Free!

To summarize, it is possible, with the SSL VPN, to have full internet access on your PC simply by having needed a package (or option) WAP (type Illimythics SFR).

Then discover the new version of the tutorial without further delay, and feel free to comment!

Update March 23: I added a phase in step 3a, to configure the ports of Your Freedom. This allows to use the Your Freedom TAP driver OpenVPN GUI and encapsulate all traffic in the SSL tunnel.

As I mentioned in my previous post , access WAP (WAP options and packages) allow HTTP, HTTPS and WAP. HTTPS uses SSL (or TLS) to encrypt data, and as the protocol layer of SSL / TLS is between those of TCP and HTTP, all information and data is encrypted HTTP and therefore invisible to the network of operator, including the user-agent.

Which means it can connect to any secure site (HTTPS) from their PC or PDA via its WAP mobile (as explained in the tutorials with PC and with PDAs ) without changing its user-agent! For example connections to sites of bank account management (eg https://particuliers.secure.lcl.fr), secure webmail (eg https://login.live.com), etc. ...

This also explains the possibility of establishing an SSL VPN via WAP-enabled mobile without them being rejected.

I've updated the tutorial " Web Access to PC via mobile GPRS / WAP ": in fact the proxy is no longer necessary in SFR, and by establishing an SSL tunnel, it is no longer only Web (HTTP, HTTPS) that is accessible, but the internet (web, mail POP & IMAP, VoIP, ....)!

You may have noticed recently by downloading the WAP settings SFR: there is no proxy! Until recently, most of the NPC "wapsfr" you had to use the WAP proxy / SFR for Web surfing on their mobile (or PC thanks to the tutorial ), this is no longer necessary.

In addition, the NPC wapsfr limited and limit-still-surfing with HTTP, HTTPS and WAP, but using a tunnel (or VPN) SSL, all Internet protocols spend now! That is, it is then possible to use a POP / IMAP (Thunderbird or Outlook for example.), To VoIP, peer-to-peer, ...

See the new version of the tutorial to learn more about all this great news!

The synchronization service of AOL, AOL Sync , now supports SyncML protocol, and offers a plugin for Outlook.

SyncML compatibility allows you to synchronize all your PIM data (contacts, calendar and tasks) of a phone (in fact most phones) with contacts, calendar and tasks from AOL.

Also AOL has partnered with Funambol and offers a plugin for Outlook, which also allows you to synchronize contacts, calendar and tasks with an AOL account.

AOL mail is already available in IMAP, with the new synchronization capabilities, AOL is the first "big" online service provider to offer a free comprehensive synchronization solution that offers neither Google or Yahoo or MSN / Windows Live.

Use your package SFR Illimythics for unlimited surfing the Web from a PC?
It is possible!

Indeed, if the SFR Illimythics packages allow unlimited access to all WAP and Web sites (not just to the WAP portal SFR Vodafone Live!) From their mobile, they use the access point wapsfr and WAP proxy, which block browsers other than mobiles. But with some manipulation it is possible to "hide" the browser "PC" favorite (IE or Firefox) browser in "mobile" and not be blocked, and then surf unlimited calls from your PC!
Full details on the tutorial " Web Access to PC via mobile GPRS / WAP ".
