This tutorial has been updated, you will find the new version on the dedicated page:
http://www.hautdebitmobile.fr/tutoriaux/acces-web-sur-pocket-pc-avec-mobile-bluetooth-gprswap/
This article describes how to access the Web (HTTP (S)) on a Pocket PC via a Windows Mobile-enabled phones. You need to have:
- A mobile with Bluetooth
- A Windows Mobile Pocket PC with Bluetooth profile including "dial-up networking"
- An option package or WAP for your mobile (eg option vodafonelive 1H, Pro Unlimited WAP access, etc. ..)
The first step is to create a connection "dial-up" on the Pocket PC using the GPRS modem of the mobile via a Bluetooth link, then it will change the "User Agent" Web browser.
Step 1 - Creating the connection to the Pocket PC
To create the connection requires a proxy, so use the parameters "Work Network" or create new settings, because the parameters "My ISP" do not use a proxy.
Reminder settings "My ISP" (present by default and can not be deleted) allow setting up a modem connection, and are used by programs that connect to the internet, and the parameters "Work Network" (present also by default and can not be deleted) allow setting up a modem connection, a VPN and a proxy, and are used by programs that connect to a private network (eg a network connection internal company on the internet via a VPN).
You can create new settings including a modem, VPN and a proxy (such as parameters "Work Network") and use them for programs automatically connecting to the internet.
So we will create new parameters ("SFR GPRS"):
Go to Settings> Connections> Connections:
then in the "Advanced" and "Select Networks"
![]()
type in the "New ..." and name the parameters "SFR GPRS" (for example):
go to the "Modem" tab, type in the "New ...", name the connection and select the modem "Bluetooth Dialup Modem":
Next type in,
then enter the phone number * 99 #
Next then type,
leave the fields "username", "password" and "domain" blank, and type in "Advanced":
57600 put in the "Baud Rate"
indicate: + CGDCONT = 1, "IP", "wapsfr" in "Other modem commands ..." (with SFR, the other operators see page GPRS )
go to the TCP / IP tab and uncheck "Compression Software" and "Compression of IP header" not confirm "ok" and then "Finish." Back in the connection list, go to the Proxy tab, check the boxes and enter the IP address of the WAP proxy / HTTP operator:
Advanced specify the ports in the proxy for HTTP, WAP and Secure WAP:
and click OK.
Next then type,
In the menu "Network Management", select the connection "SFR GPRS" as the default connection for the internet:
and click OK, and confirm again: that's it, your connection is ready!
Step 2 - Changing the "user agent" pocket IE browser
This step is necessary if your phone has a WAP access option, because the WAP proxy / Web operators only allows browsers WAP / Web Mobile phones, identified by their user-agent.
If your phone has Internet access (ie not just limited to WAP) this change is certainly unnecessary, plus it is quite possible that surf the Web from a PC and a Pocket PC connected to mobile is also possible by default.
To change the User Agent in Pocket IE must change the registry key with a registry editor (logical!).
PHM RegEdit is perfect, you can download it from the author's website: http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit , you can choose the installation mode (via ActiveSync. cab file) and the version of Windows Mobile.
Once installed, launch the PHM RegEdit and go to the keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>> SOFTWARE>> Microsoft>> Windows>> CurrentVersion>> Internet Settings>> User Agent:
- First make a backup of current settings by pointing to "User Agent" and select "Export" from the dropdown list, enter a name for the backup file and click OK.
- Change the following entries (the values are those of the Sony Ericsson K800i)
Default: SonyEricssonK800i (actually what you want but not Mozilla)
Platform: R1L Browser
Version: 3.3
Leave the other key unchanged.
It only remains for you to establish the Bluetooth connection between your mobile Pocket PC, launch Pocket IE, choose the connection you created earlier (SFR GPRS) and surfing the Web with WAP and Pocket IE!

hello,
Thank you!
This may be because you have multiple profiles GPRS in your mobile V630i, and the profile "WAP GPRS" is not the default profile. In this case you must specify the account ID in the numbering GPRS WAP:
- Mark the account data to access WAP (GPRS Settings> Connectivity> Data comm.> Accounts data), this one has in APN = wapsfr, it should be identified "WAP GPRS" or "WAP SFR" or "WAP SFR GPRS"
- Select that profile and Other> Account Info
- Note the value of the external ID (eg 3)
- Complete the number to dial into the PocketPC with the ID ext.: * 99 *** 3 # (if ID ext .= 3)
Do not hesitate to let me know!
Eric

Now I did an update and I have no problem (over Orange system).
It is really well done tutorial, I have vodafone on my Qtek 2020 from bluetooth on my V630i.
A big thank you.

it was some attempt, and still nothing!
I use in Airis T620 PDA and a phone in LG KU380, and I can not Avior a connection, and I do not see what I'm doing wrong.
Would there be a problem avecv this model phone, or am I just not good?
In advance, thank you.

hello,
Does the problem occurs (error message) to launch the GPRS/3G connection via Bluetooth to the PDA, or at the launch of Pocket IE browser?
Attention to the command line modem initialization is the tricky part:
- To indicate the APN of your operator (see step 1)
- Try it with such as number of * 99 *** 1 # (instead of * 99 #)
Keep us informed!
Eric

I found this article very interesting, and maybe you could help me, I look for in fact through my pocket pc to connect to my local network by using a PC equipped to a bluetooth dongle, but I can not understand how the relationship between the "Bluetooth" which works perfectly and the creation of a connection from the pocket pc bluettoth on the link, it may not be very clear ...

Hello Celtiore,
First we must check what the "profiles" supported by the Bluetooth dongle (on PC): for what you want to do, we must profile "PAN" (Personal Area Networking Profile), or the former "LAN Access Profile" - which basically allows the sharing of network connection. Then you just turn on connection sharing network on the Windows PC to allow connection of Bluetooth PAN profile to access the LAN via the LAN connection (Ethernet or Wifi).
Unfortunately I have no details on it (and no Bluetooth dongle in my possession for a tutorial!).
good luck!
Eric

Hello, sorry for the delay, but I was on vacation

The "trouble" would come on the side rather than PC PDA, I have installed the right thing, I even managed to get a connection, but pda side, it looks like he is determined to find a Bluetooth connection Modem

Hello Celtiore,
It is not very clear, I advise you, after you enable the bluetooth dongle and the PDA-"to explore" all services (Bluetooth profiles) of the dongle from your PDA and it will display all connection methods possible to dongle (RAS modem, PAN, ....).

Hi Eric,
I thank you for this tutorial, it is very interesting. I have a Nokia E65 with a package Illimithics SFR Pro, Asus MyPal PDA and a Windows Mobile 6. I could not configure the connection exactly as you stated: The window in which we introduce the baud rate and other modem commands does not appear on WM6. I still finished the configuration to the end and I tried to connect to internet via bluetooth. The PDA comes well to the Dialing Up the phone reacts! a small drawing of Green Chemise displayed with the letter D (for Data I think), but unfortunately can not connect.
Will you have an idea about the origin of this problem?
Thank you for your future response,
Ali

Hello Eric.
I have an N82 and a IPaq114 that runs WM6 and have the same problem as Ali, that when configuring the connection in WM6 we have no window where you can put the camera SFRWAP ... So, when we connect the PDA to the phone for Bluetooth connection is established but after it stopped.
If you have an idea of where you can set the parameters of the SFR apn, I'm interested.
Again thank you for this great tutorial and hope to read you.

Hello
An early response to Ali and myself in this post, at the last comments: http://www.pocketpcmag.com/cms/index.php?q=blogs/3/2196
Explained the difference between WM5 and WM6 where the "Advanced" tab no longer exists and where it can not configure the connection to the NPC wapsfr. Also, it is explained that amendments to the registry and put the connection that you desire.
Nevertheless, following their indication, the pocket PC (iPAQ 114) makes a connection with the phone (Nokia N82) but the phone immediately breaks the connection ...
I'm stuck at this level. Eric you would not have a track to help me out?
I keep searching and will keep you posted if I find something.
Sidney

I continue to look for me too!
