Web Access to Pocket PC / PDA with a Bluetooth mobile GPRS / WAP
This tutorial describes how to access the Web-HTTP (S) - on a Pocket PC (PDA) under Windows Mobile via a Bluetooth mobile.
You need to have:
- A phone with Bluetooth
- A Pocket PC Windows Mobile with Bluetooth profile including dial-up networking "
- An option package or WAP for your mobile (eg option VodafoneLive 1H, unlimited access WAP Pro Illimythics, etc. ..)
The first step is to create a connection dial-up "on the Pocket PC using the mobile GPRS modem via a Bluetooth link, then it will change the" User Agent "Web browser.
Step 1 - Creating the connection on the Pocket PC
The connection involves creating a proxy, so use settings "Network Desktop", or create new settings because the settings "My ISP" does not allow to use a proxy.
To recall settings "My ISP" (present by default and can not be deleted) allow setting up a modem, and are used by programs that connect to the internet and parameters "Work Network" (present also by default and can not be deleted) allow setting up a modem, a VPN and a proxy, and are used by programs that connect to a private network (eg a network connection internal company via a VPN over internet).
It is possible to create new parameters including a modem, VPN and proxy (as the parameters "Work Network") and used for programs automatically connecting to the internet.
We will create new parameters (SFR GPRS "):
- Go to Settings> Connections> Connections:
- Then in the tab "Advanced", and "Select Networks":
- Knock on "New ..." and name the parameter 'GPRS SFR "(for example):
- Go to the tab "Modem" type on "New ..." name the connection and select the modem "Bluetooth Dialup Modem"
- Knock Next,
- Then enter the phone number * 99 #
- Then type Next,
- Leave the fields "username", "password" and "field" empty, and typing in "Advanced":
put 57600 in the "Baud rate"
- Specify: + CGDCONT = 1, "IP", "APN" in "Other Stuff the modem ..." where APN is the access point WAP / Web your operator (wapsfr SFR, Bouygues Telecom mmsbouygtel.com, Orange Orange), as indicated in the GPRS page )
- In the new window scroll to the Advanced tab and enter the following initialization string: + GTDCONT = 1 "IP", "APN", where NPC is the access point WAP / Web your operator (wapsfr SFR, Bouygues Telecom mmsbouygtel.com, orange for orange).
- Go to the TCP / IP tab and uncheck "Software Compression" and "Compression of IP header" confirm with "ok", then "Finish".
- Return to the list of connections, go to the Proxies tab, check the boxes and enter the IP address of the WAP proxy / HTTP Operator:
- Advanced to specify the ports of the proxy for HTTP, WAP and Secure WAP:
- Confirm by OK.
- Knock Next,
- Menu "Networking", select the connection "GPRS SFR" as the default connection for the internet:
- Confirm by OK, and confirm again: that is, your connection is ready!
Step 2 - Change the "user agent" Pocket IE browser
This step is necessary if your phone has an option WAP access, because the WAP proxy / web operators allows only WAP browsers / web phones, identified by their user-agent.
If your device has Internet access (ie not just limited to WAP) such amendment is certainly superfluous, and it is quite possible that web surfing from a PC and a Pocket PC connected to mobile is also possible by default.
To change the User Agent Pocket IE should change the registry key with a registry editor (logical!).
PHM RegEdit is perfect, you can download it from the author's website: http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit , you can choose the installation mode (via ActiveSync. cab file) and version of Windows Mobile.
Once installed, run the program PHM RegEdit and go to the keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>> SOFTWARE>> Microsoft>> Windows>> CurrentVersion>> Internet Settings>> User agent:
- First make a backup of current settings by pointing to "User Agent" and select "Export" from the dropdown list, enter a name for the backup file and click OK.
- Change the following entries (values are those of the Sony Ericsson K800i):
Default: SonyEricssonK800i (actually what you want but not Mozilla)
Platform: R1L Browser
Version: 3.3
Leave the other keys unchanged.
It'll just make the connection between your Bluetooth mobile your Pocket PC, open Pocket IE, choose the connection you created earlier (SFR GPRS) and surfing on WAP and Web with Pocket IE!

Hello Eric.
I have a N82 and a IPaq114 running under WM6 and I have the same problem as Ali, that when configuring the connection in WM6 we have no window where you can put ... AFN SFRWAP So long as you connect the PDA to the phone to the Bluetooth link is established but the connection stops after ca.
If you have any idea where we can settle the parameters of the SFR apn, I'm interested.
Again thank you for this wonderful tutorial and hope to read you.
Sidney
Hello again
An early response to Ali and myself in this post, at the latest comments: http://www.pocketpcmag.com/cms/index.php?q=blogs/3/2196
He explained the difference between WM5 and WM6 where the tab "Advanced" no longer exists and where it can not connect to the parameter AFN wapsfr. Also, he explained the need to modify the registry and put the connection that is desired.
Nevertheless, following their indication, the Pocket PC (iPAQ 114) makes a connection with the phone (Nokia N82) but immediately cut the phone connection ...
I'm stuck at this level. Eric you would not have a track to help me out?
I keep searching and will let you know if I find something.
Sidney

Hello everyone,
I found myself in the same case: in fact, I have a HP iPAQ 214 with mobile 6 and impossible to integrate the magic phrase for the Access Point Bouygtel wap! A priori it would go to "BT Phone Manager" but where exactly I do not know ...
Should you have any additional information pending ... .. I still find myself
thank you

Hello
I am new because I still managed to communicate my iPaq 114 (Windows Mobile 6) with my nokia N82 (GPRS).
Jessica, you've found a track?

Unfortunately not
However my situation is a bit special, it's not my IPAQ Me and the person to whom I provided is very little available so difficult to make manipulations.
I looked in vain to communicate with the phone I can send text files to a remote server: it is a transmission fast enough so I do not really encounter a problem but it is true that if I delay at connection that eventually cut! I'm still looking! I will certainly keep you informed
Cordially

Hello
to have access to the internet with Dialup Networking (used with a phone modem) and Windows Mobile 6 should be changed in the registry of the pocket (possibly with CeRegEditor, Free)
go into the registry of the pocket, (as it is possible to add some command line to the modem)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ DRIVERS \ Unimodem \ Init
then
After validating the option of a possible change of the base in the prg CeRegEditor
click on Edit / news / StringValue
valuename to put: 3 (you should already have two lines)
Value data has put AT + CGDCONT = 1, "IP", "orange.fr" (this for orange)
to OK
give the option of blocking write the registry da
then at the top left click on the green star
this causes a soft reset of the Pocket PC
then to number
not to * 99 # but * 99 *** 1 #
voila it works

OK! thank you champion!
I set up additional HP 214 for customers, I downloaded CeRegEditor
Small precision: to unlock the software by writing must go to "tools" then "unlock registry" validate confirmation messages
I test the changes before long, but I hope and thanks to you, so THANK YOU AGAIN !!!!!

Hello
Bubu thank you for that track to go and change the settings in the registry of Windows Mobile 6, that's what I put in the link posted previously, but unfortunately for me, it does not work. And for Jessica, this method works??
Otherwise, I think the problem is rather the connection between the iPaq 114 and Nokia Mobile, because the connection is established and two seconds after she cut for undetermined reason.
Well, I board on the subject (with little attendance, sorry), but I would not fail to keep you informed.
Sidney

Hello
After having made some test results are: I want to use my Ipaq via a nokia and a sony ericsson. Today I actually tested the magic phrase in the registry AC DOES NOT ALWAYS! So I looked at the BT PHONE MANAGER and yeah I manage to log on and stay! return several parameters into account:
- Delete an already existing set of connections (in parameter / connections / connection)
- 2 to detect the phone AND the type of subscription via BT PHONE MANAGER
- 3 create the connection from BT PHONE MANAGER
- 4 activate the bluetooth (I was surprised to be working with BT PHONE MANAGER while the bluetooth was deactivated! Short ...) utlilsez bluetooth manager detected the phone and connect using the connection manager created with BT PHONE
it works! the connection of the bt phone manager can determine if it's GPRS or 3G .. what else does not in fact a classic connection!
WARNING! Membership is for a lot when even! and settings from the phone too! I have set up an NPC for orange SFR and Bouygues. usually when you go to the website of the manufacturer of phone you should be able to send an sms with params ADEQUACY!
For those who are ac disconnect almost instantly, check on this if you already can use the wap! otherwise every such ticket provider have a multimedia service that you can contact at any chance
voila courage

Well, I tried the technique has exposed Jessica, and modifying the registry bubu (and a mix of both
) ... .. and still these micro disconnection. In fact, the modem to connect (I see a little icon on my mobile) but cuts as soon as a few packets are sent-received.
Sfr assures me that it should work (I subscribed to the surf), but still nothing ....
Some would say that I buy a smartphone's: p
I always try, if a generous soul has a solution miraclomagique

Thank you for the solution,
I have a ipac 210 and nokia 2700. I do what you suggest but it did not work at first. in fact, the Bluetooth CONNECTION I have chosen initially was: "Access to the Internet (phone). I have not succeeded. My tried another type of bluetooth connection "" connect to a LAN "and C'A market. I think the latter is more appropriate.
I also think that for windows mobile 6 has a function dedicated to share the Internet connection via mobile phone: "BT phone manager" and who deserves to be tried.
