Web access on Pocket PC / PDA with a Bluetooth mobile GPRS / WAP
This tutorial describes how to access the Web-HTTP (S) - on a Pocket PC (PDA) under Windows Mobile via a Bluetooth mobile.
You need to have:
- A mobile with Bluetooth
- A Windows Mobile Pocket PC with Bluetooth profile including "dial-up networking"
- An option package or WAP for your mobile (eg option vodafonelive 1H, unlimited access WAP Pro Illimythics, etc. ..)
The first step is to create a connection "dial-up" on the Pocket PC using the GPRS modem of the mobile via a Bluetooth link, then it will change the "User Agent" Web browser.
Step 1 - Creating the connection to the Pocket PC
To create the connection requires a proxy, so use the parameters "Work Network" or create new settings, because the parameters "My ISP" do not use a proxy.
Reminder settings "My ISP" (present by default and can not be deleted) allow setting up a modem connection, and are used by programs that connect to the internet and settings "Work Network" (present also by default and can not be deleted) allow setting up a modem connection, a VPN and a proxy, and are used by programs that connect to a private network (eg a network connection internal company on the internet via a VPN).
You can create new settings including a modem, VPN and a proxy (as the parameters "Work Network") and use them for programs automatically connecting to the internet.
So we will create new settings ("SFR GPRS"):
- Go to Settings> Connections> Connections:
- Then in the "Advanced" and "Select Networks"
- Type in the "New ..." and name the parameters "SFR GPRS" (for example):
- Go to the "Modem" tab, type in the "New ...", name the connection and select the modem "Bluetooth Dialup Modem":
- Next type in,
- Enter the phone number * 99 #
- Then type Next,
- Leave the fields "username", "password" and "domain" blank, and type in "Advanced":
57600 put in the "Baud Rate"
- Specify: + CGDCONT = 1, "IP", "APN" in "Other modem commands ..." where APN is the access point WAP / Web your operator (wapsfr for SFR, Bouygues Telecom for mmsbouygtel.com, Orange to Orange), as shown in the GPRS page )
- In the new window go to the Advanced tab and enter the following initialization string: + GTDCONT = 1, "IP", "APN" where APN is the access point WAP / Web your operator (wapsfr SFR, Bouygues Telecom for mmsbouygtel.com, orange for Orange).
- Go to the TCP / IP tab and uncheck "Software Compression" and "Compression of IP header" click "OK" and then "Finish".
- Return to the list of connections, go to the Proxy tab, check the boxes and enter the IP address of the WAP proxy / HTTP operator:
- Advanced to specify the proxy port for HTTP, WAP and Secure WAP:
- Press OK.
- Next type in,
- In the menu "Network Management", select the connection "SFR GPRS" as the default connection for the internet:
- Press OK, and confirm again: that's it, your connection is ready!
Step 2 - Changing the "user agent" pocket IE browser
This step is necessary if your phone has a WAP access option, because the WAP proxy / Web operators only allows browsers WAP / Web Mobile phones, identified by their user-agent.
If your phone has Internet access (ie not just limited to WAP) this change is certainly unnecessary, plus it is quite possible that surf the Web from a PC and a Pocket PC connected to mobile is also possible by default.
To change the User Agent in Pocket IE must change the registry key with a registry editor (logical!).
PHM RegEdit is perfect, you can download it from the author's website: http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit , you can choose the installation mode (via ActiveSync. cab file) and the version of Windows Mobile.
Once installed, launch the PHM RegEdit and go to the keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>> SOFTWARE>> Microsoft>> Windows>> CurrentVersion>> Internet Settings>> User Agent:
- First make a backup of current settings by pointing to "User Agent" and select "Export" from the dropdown list, enter a name for the backup file and click OK.
- Change the following entries (the values are those of the Sony Ericsson K800i)
Default: SonyEricssonK800i (actually what you want but not Mozilla)
Platform: R1L Browser
Version: 3.3
Leave the other key unchanged.
It only remains for you to establish the Bluetooth connection between your mobile Pocket PC, launch Pocket IE, choose the connection you created earlier (SFR GPRS) and surfing the Web with WAP and Pocket IE!

Hello Eric.
I have an N82 and a IPaq114 that runs WM6 and have the same problem as Ali, that when configuring the connection in WM6 we have no window where you can put the camera SFRWAP ... So, when we connect the PDA to the phone for Bluetooth connection is established but after it stopped.
If you have an idea of where you can set the parameters of the SFR apn, I'm interested.
Again thank you for this great tutorial and hope to read you.
Sidney
Hello again
An early response to Ali and myself in this post, at the last comments: http://www.pocketpcmag.com/cms/index.php?q=blogs/3/2196
Explained the difference between WM5 and WM6 where the "Advanced" tab no longer exists and where it can not configure the connection to the NPC wapsfr. Also, it is explained that amendments to the registry and put the connection that you desire.
Nevertheless, following their indication, the pocket PC (iPAQ 114) makes a connection with the phone (Nokia N82) but the phone immediately breaks the connection ...
I'm stuck at this level. Eric you would not have a track to help me out?
I keep searching and will keep you posted if I find something.
Sidney

Hello all,
I found myself in the same case: in fact, I have a HP IPAQ 214 with mobile 6 and impossible to include the magic phrase for WAP access point to Bouygtel! A priori it would go to "BT Phone Manager" or exactly but I do not know ...
If you have additional information ... .. in the meantime I continue to look for me too
thank you

Hello,

Unfortunately not
That said my situation is a little peculiar, it is not my IPAQ personal and the person that I provided is very little available therefore difficult to make manipulations.
I looked in vain, the telephone communication with me to send text files to a remote server: it is a transmission fast enough so I do not encounter much of a problem but it is true that if I delay in the connection that eventually cut! I'm still looking! I will certainly keep you informed
Cordially

Hello,
to be able to access internet with Dialup Networking (used with a phone modem) and Windows Mobile 6 should be changed in the registry of the pocket (possibly with CeRegEditor, free)
go into the registry of the pocket (as it is possible to add some command line to the modem)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ DRIVERS \ Unimodem \ Init
then
After validating the option of a possible change in the basis in the prg CeRegEditor
click on Edit / news / StringValue
valuename to make: 3 (you must have two lines)
a Value data to: AT + CGDCONT = 1, "IP", "orange.fr" (this for orange)
OK to
provide the option of blocking write the registry da
then top left click on the green star
this causes a soft reset the Pocket PC
and then to number
not to * 99 # but * 99 *** 1 #
Here it works

Hello
Thank you for this track Bubu going to change the settings in the registry of Windows Mobile 6 is what I put in the link posted previously, but unfortunately for me, it does not work. And Jessica, this method works?
Otherwise, I think the problem is rather the connection between ipaq and nokia 114, because the connection is established and two seconds after it is cut for some reason.
Well, I working on the subject (with little attendance, sorry), but I would not fail to keep you informed.

Hello,
After doing some tests here are the results: I want to use my Ipaq via a sony ericsson and nokia. Today I actually tested the magic phrase in the CA registry does not work! So I looked at the BT Phone Manager and I get a yay to connect and stay! return several parameters into account:
- 1 delete all existing connections (in Settings / Connections / Connection)
- 2 to detect the phone and the type of subscription via BT Phone Manager
- 3 create the connection from BT PHONE MANAGER
- 4 to activate the bluetooth (I was surprised to be working with BT Phone Manager while the bluetooth been disabled! Brief ...) utlilsez the bluetooth manager to detect the phone and connect using the connection created with BT Phone Manager
it works! connecting the BT phone manager can determine if it's 3G GPRS or other .. that is not a typical connection in fact!
ATTENTION! the subscription has a lot to anyway! and of the phone too! I have set up a camera to Orange SFR and Bouygues. In principle, if you go to the website of the manufacturer of phone you should be able to send you an sms with the params adequate!
For those for whom it is almost instantly disconnect, check on this if you can already surf the wap! if each such ticket provider have a multimedia service that you can contact at any hazard
Here Courage

Well, I tried the technique has exposed Jessica, as well as editing the registry of bubu (and a mix of both
) ... .. and still these micro disconnections. In fact, the modem connects (I see a small icon on my mobile) but turns off when some packets are sent, received.
Sfr make sure that it should work (I have subscribed to the surf), but still nothing ....
Some will say that I buy a smartphone's: p
I'm still looking, if a generous soul has a solution miraclomagique

Thank you for the solution
I have an ipac 210 and nokia 2700. I did everything you suggested but it did not work at first. in fact, Connextion bluetooth that I have chosen initially was "Access to the Internet (phone)." I have not succeeded. I tried another type of Bluetooth connection "" connect to a LAN "and this has the market. I think it is more appropriate.
I also think that windows mobile 6 has a function dedicated to share the internet connection via GSM "BT Phone Manager" and deserves to be tried.
